Enhancing performance
at every level
For Sport
Proven Science, Proven Product!
Sport is a huge part of modern life and a range of people are involved from the casual participant to the committed professional.
At Evexar Compression Advisory Ltd (ECAL) we have been directly involved with helping elite sport achieve better performance though the application of medical grade compression. This experience has taught us the value and benefits of this technology and how it can help a range of people involved in sport at any level.
The Evexar Compression Advisory's range of GC Tech™ Socks:
The Sports GC Tech™ socks have been designed specifically to enhance physiology and help meet the demands made by sportsmen and women, with the input of;
- Leading sports physiologists/scientists
- Elite sports professionals
The Evexar Medical Sport GCS provides targeted graduated compression of the lower leg and are considered a mechanical ergogenic aid with a wide range of benefits which contribute to performance enhancement in sports and exercise through muscle compression technology.
Where medical grade compression can help in Sport
The key areas where wearing medical grade compression can help in sport are;
- Performance
- Recovery after Sport
- Injury Rehabilitation
- Conditioning daywear and all travel
Performance
While many companies provide compression clothing for performance, we at ECAL realise that only medical grade graduated compression is clinically proven to improve blood flow. The Evexar developed sock is also proven at the elite level with over 600-premiership players using the sock to improve performance. The benefits are not confined to football and any sport where the lower leg is used can benefit from Evexar graduated compression technology, some of the benefits include;
- Clinically proven improved venous return – due to the medically certified compression profile 1
- Supports the calf muscle – improves oxygen delivery to the calf, reduces muscle oscillation, optimises muscle alignment/efficiency 2
- Helps temperature regulation – due to integrated wicking agents 3-4
- Improves calf muscle stamina – delays time to exhaustion 5-6
Thus the socks, when worn with any type of exercise will help improve performance by supporting the calf and improving the circulation. The GC Teck sock has been used in a huge range of sports for this very purpose and at the elite level we have supported;
- Football
- Rugby
- Running
- Tennis and other racquet sports
- Golf
- Cycling
- Numerous Olympic level athletes
- Dance
- Cricket
- Basketball
- Triathlon
For Recovery
Recovery is one of the most important aspects of training in elite sport and this is something many amateur athletes do not fully understand. Recognising that poor recovery can lead to injury, poor adaptation to the training stimulus, staleness and poor performance, we at Evexar have created a product with clinical backing recovery programmes using our graduated medical sports sock which can be integrated into your own programmes.
The aim of this programme is to fully support individual sports men/women using bespoke strategies revolved around the unique medical graded compression sock devised by the vascular surgeons within the Evexar Medical Group.
Recovery after exercise and competition involves a number of physical and mental activities ranging from nutritional interventions, cool downs, body cooling (vasoconstriction), stretching, performance assessments and rest.
Routine compression has been shown to play an important part in the immediate post exercise period. How best to apply medical grade compression will vary depending upon each individual circumstance and we believe that it is wholly appropriate that the sock be used in different ways to meet these very particular requirements as one size does not fit all. As before other compression garments provide squeeze but are not clinically certified, the garments from ECAL are made to medical grade standards so are proven to improve blood flow.
When to wear;
The sock can be worn straight after exercise to gain the benefits, ideally they should be worn for a minimum of 2-3 hours the benefits are;
- Reduces DOMS – (Delayed onset muscle soreness), so your legs feel less sore and stiff after exercise.
- Helps flush waste products from tired muscles
- Reduces exercise associated swelling
For Injury (rehabilitation, prehabilitation)
Injury is and will always be a companion of sport and exercise. Strains and pulls and more serious injury cost athletes and teams considerable challenges both in performance and in their ability to achieve consistent training necessary for high level performance.
R.I.C.E. stands for Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation and is the procedure that will follow most injury under the guidance of medical teams. GC Tech™ provides an ideal way to provide compression which channels fluid up and out of the leg thus reducing swelling significantly. The conditions where this will be particularly useful include;
- Ankle sprains – for support and to reduce swelling
- Calf Tears/Strains
- Chronic Compartment syndrome
Travel
Travel is a significant part of any athletes life and has a huge impact on the completion of training cycles, recovery and performance.
Given that sport is played all over the world travel can be of long duration and vary in the degree of stress. Travel takes many forms from road to air all of which come with a number of inherent risks to the athletes health, wellbeing and ability to perform in ensuing competition.
Of the problems encountered some are listed below:
- Enforced immobility
- Increased dehydration
- Nutritional issues
- Duration of travel (anything over 2 hours)
- Increased frequency of long distance travel (consider to & from work)
- Seated posture when sleeping
- Travel reduced oxygen pressures at cabin altitudes
- Low cabin humidity
- Long duration flights (trans-oceanic)
- Seated posture – leading to pressure on the leg veins, reduced venous return and hence swollen legs and ankles and increased risk of DVT
Travel induced Oedema may cause blood pooling or a build-up of excess fluid in soft tissue. These fluids are gravity dependant and pool as a result of enforced immobility. Most commonly, travel induced Oedema is seen in the ankles or legs. To move these fluids back to the heart we require contracting muscles to assist the valves of the veins.
GC Tech, used in very specific ways can play a significant role in alleviating these problems. We at ECAL have advised numerous elite teams (as listed earlier) on the use of this technology to reduce the risk of travel on the athlete and help improve 'away' performance.
